Sunnyvale School District is partnering with Bay Ed Fund to elevate the Sunnyvale Promise for students, families, educators and staff.
Bay Ed Fund is a nonprofit education partner that works alongside school districts and communities to support long-term improvements in public schools. Through this partnership, Sunnyvale will receive a $580,000 grant for the 2026–27 school year, along with additional expertise and resources to advance the District’s existing priorities.
Under the partnership, Bay Ed Fund has employed Joy Shen to serve as Sunnyvale School District’s new chief of staff. Working from within the District and alongside its leadership and school communities, Shen will connect Sunnyvale’s strategic priorities with the everyday experiences of students, families, educators and staff. Her position is designed to support collaboration, expand opportunities for community participation and help advance the Sunnyvale Promise through focused, sustainable action.
“There is nothing quite like the magic of students, families, and educators coming together in pursuit of a brighter future,” Shen said. “I am honored to work alongside the Sunnyvale community as we bring our Promise to life through action. Your lived experiences, hopes, and dreams are what make this place so special, and I can't wait to see what we build together.”
Throughout the year, Sunnyvale community members will have more opportunities to help shape the future of the District. Students, families, educators, staff and community partners can attend upcoming events, join leadership teams, participate in surveys and interviews, and follow the District’s progress through regular updates.
The District will host its first community event of the year, the SSD Community Kick-Off, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 15. Students, families, educators, staff and community members are invited to share a meal, connect and discuss what meaningful partnership in education looks like. Participants will also learn how they can contribute to the District’s visioning process and help shape its future.
Dinner, child care, Spanish-language interpretation and transportation support will be available. Additional details are coming soon.
